Tim's obituary in the Henley Standard

Created by Jon one month ago

Timothy Peers was born in Chelsea on March 26 1962 to Chris and Marjorie Peers. After a couple of years in London, Marjorie moved her children to Henley with her husband Mike Hurst.  The family settled in The Grove on the Fair Mile and became an ever increasing feature of the Henley community.

Tim and Lexi initially, closely followed by Muffin Bryony, Jonas and Adam immersed themselves in the Henley Children's Theatre group led by Tim's grandmother, Flavia Pickworth, while Mike's music career took off.

Tim spent his formative years at Highlands preschool on Peppard Common, followed by a Cothill Preparatory School Abingdon, and lastly, Pangbourne College, Tim's love and forte was undoubtedly on the sports field, rather than the classroom. He competed in the national judo championships, played squash and hockey for the county, and was also a very capable footballer, tennis player, golfer and occasional cricketer.

Tim's career started in insurance, followed by various stints in the pub and music business, but his true calling came from the property world. He started in South West London, before finally moving back to Henley, where he joined Chancellors. He then joined Drakeford Lewis and Hilton, which became Peers and Hilton, before finally becoming Tim Peers Estate Agents, one of Henley's foremost independent agencies.
Tim had been at the heart of the heart of the Henley property market for the past 30 years and Tim Peers Esate Agents remains in safe hands and is continuing to thrive.

Having met Lindsay during their childhood, Tim reconnected with the love of his life while still living in London. He happily moved to Henley to be with Lindsay, where they built their wonderful life together. They had two much adored children, Ben and Ellie, both well known in the Henley community, and their family made their home in the Hambleden Valley.

Tim was busy building his business, while Lindsay looked after the family, working part time and tending to their stunning garden. It is safe to say that the single most important thing in Tim's life was family, friends and music in that order, whether it be the Peers clan of four or the much larger entourage led by Marjorie and Mike.

Tim was passionate about the music business. With the most incredible knowledge of all things relating to the writing, production and engineering of more records than one could imagine. He devoured music encyclopedias and could answer any music related question, frequently going off at a tangent and divulging more information than might have been requested. More recently, he shared this passion and wisdom in his podcast “Music and Beers with Tim Peers”, which thankfully gave him much needed focus during the last few months when his lifelong routine was interrupted.

Above all, Tim was known for his cheerful presence and helpful attitude. The family is heartened by the large number of loving messages demonstrating the high regard in which he was held - kind beyond comparison, and quick to smile. He was the man who always filled the glass literally and metaphorically. Tim’s zest for life made the family home a lively hub always filled with friends and family. His generous spirit and love for entertaining created a welcoming home where guests were always greeted with open arms, truly a joyous place for all.

Tim's infectious energy and boundless enthusiasm will be sorely missed by all those who met him, not least by his large and loving family. However, his memory will live on forever. Tim was diagnosed with glioblastoma in September, and he underwent brain surgery and cancer treatment, which he faced with tremendous courage until peace came on July 18.
